The Arts Society Young Arts Programme provides exciting opportunities for children and young people to expand their horizons through their involvement in creative arts activities.

We aim to inspire young people with a lasting enthusiasm for the arts and an awareness of our arts heritage and its conservation.

Tuppenny Barn

2021/22: This Southbourne based charity is committed to creating "a better future for our children" through inspirational community learning offering a wide variety of practical experiences.
We are supporting their SEND project for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, encouraging confidence and skills development through craft and arts activities.

Music Sponsorship

In 2019 we sponsored jointly with the two other Chichester Societies the Chichester Music Centre’s summer concerts. On July 6th at St Paul’s Chichester 138 students aged from 5 – 19 years took part in string orchestra, concert band, choir and rock and pop band performances. Our sponsorship permitted a larger venue for them. It was a very successful concert, drawing a lot of appreciative comments, and it was a joy to witness young musicians performing so well together, celebrating their year’s learning and hours of practice in this special end of term concert.

2020/21:  As the Pandemic drew a halt to the proposed plans for concerts and performance platforms, our Society continues alongside TAS Chichester and TAS City of Chichester to support the Chichester Music Centre with their innovative teaching online.  Our joint sponsorship enables host licenses and Zoom platforms for a Virtual Music Centre.

Singleton Primary School Art Sponsorship

We continued to sponsor this delightful small school nestled in the Lavant Valley.  In 2019 we sponsored the children’s creation of a large panel by the school entrance.

Each pupil made a hand print and these were scanned, laminated and assembled to create one large flower image on a panel now mounted outside next to the school entrance. The text reads “We are each unique and beautiful, but together we are a masterpiece”.  The panel is now engraved acknowledging our sponsorship.

Sponsorship of West Dean Student

The Arts Society Lavant Valley, in conjunction with other societies in the Sussex Area, has a partnership with West Dean College whereby we offer a grant to support the studies of an outstanding student, to train as a conservator in one of the many crafts afforded by this college of international renown. Increasingly there is a shortage of skilled conservators in the heritage sector, and most are now required to have a specialist postgraduate qualification before finding employment. Scholarship and bursary support is vital for students who demonstrate skill and passion but would otherwise be unable to fund the cost of these essential studies.

2020/21 We sponsored a student pursuing historic metalwork crafts.

In 2023/4 and 2024/25 jointly with other Arts Societies in Chichester we supported the Universiity of Chichester's Fine Arts Graduates Show at the Oxmarket in Chichester, enabling the arts graduate students to give their first professional show . This gave them training and assistance in presentation of their work in a show format and the  students were all grateful for this opportunity which brought their work to a wide range of the public .
